A wide bodied, partial double decker, 4 engined plane, commonly known as the Jumbo Jet, the 747 went into service in 1970, and for the next 37 years was the worlds largest passenger aircraft, with around 1400 having been built.
747 100This was the first model which entered service in 1970, carrying 360 passnegers in a 3 class layout. There was also a 100SR variant with a shorter range but greater passenger carrying capacity. 747 200Entering service in 1971, the 747 200 had more powerful engines, enabling higher take off weights and a longer range. 747 300The 747 300 entered service in 1983 and had an extended upper deck. Other slight modifications increased fuel efficiency, cruise speed and the range. 747 400Intorduced in 1989, the 747 400 had a number of improvements giving increased effiency, carrying 416 passengers in a 3 class layout. A 400ER variant has an extended range. |
