The low-cost airline Norwegian, based at Oslo, started operating as the regional airline Busy Bee in 1967, later becoming Air Executive Norway, then renamed to Norwegian Air Shuttle in 1993, later shortening it to Norwegian.
In 2007, the airline acquired FlyNordic from Finnair and also placed an order for 42 new Boeing 737 800 aircraft.
The airline transported over 29.3 million passengers in 2016, a 13% increase from the previous year, claiming to be the third largest low cost airline in Europe, and the 9th busiest European airline overall.
The airline owns one of the newest fleets of aircraft around.
Norwegian offers free WiFi Internet access on most of its European flights.
In 2018, Norwegian carried 37.3 million passengers, a 12% increase compared to the previous year.
