Belavia is the national airline Belarus and was officially founded in 1964 though had been operating under the name of Belarusian civil aviation group since 1940.
The present airline however dates from 1996, after which the route to London was opened along with other European destinations, and is based at Minsk International airport.
2003 saw the introduction of the first non Soviet aircraft with the additon of a Boeing 737 to the fleet, a process which has been continuing with further Boeings and the Bombardier CRJ. The last Tupolev was retired in 2015
Belavia carried 3 million passengers in 2018, an increase from the previous year of 15%.
