Ukraine, formerly part of the Soviot Union, sits on the eastern edge of Europe and the northern shores of the Black Sea, while Russia lies on it’s eastern border.
The mountains in the west of the country offer skiing, hiking, fishing, while the coastline attracts visitors from the east and north.
The official language is Ukrainian, though Russian is widely spoken.
In 2007 the country was selected (together with Poland) to host the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship. A number of improvements to the county’s infrastructure, including airports, and roads (which have not seen much improvement since communist times) were achieved by then. Since then however the country has affected by civil unrest and the annexing of Crimea by Russia.
