Average age of aircraft – 7.6 yrs, according to www.airfleets.net 05/05/19
Ryanair is reported to have the following aircraft fleet:
1 Boeing 737 700
431 Boeing 737 800
Ryanair is a no frills airline with it’s headquarters in Dublin but main operating base at London Stansted airport.
The airline was founded in 1985 with a 15 Embraer Turboprop plane flying from Waterford to London Gatwick at a time when flights between Ireland and the UK were monopolised by Aer Lingus and British Airways, both government owned at the time.
In 1986, Ryanair started flying from Dublin to Luton, in direct competition with the two giants.
The airline developed quickly after Michael O’Leary took control in 1991, adopting the model of using only one type of aircraft (they now have over 350 Boeing 737’s), achieving quick turnarounds, often at smaller regional airports keen to attract international flights.
Although still a no frills airline, Ryanair announced in 2014 that it aimed to be more family friendly.
In 2018, Ryanair carried over 130 million passengers, an 8% increase on the previous year.
